Mrs. Otis Nelson, 32, passed away suddenly early Wednesday morning at the family home, 546 Delta avenue. Death was due to complications which followed the birth of a son fourteen days ago. Mrs. Nelson was born Anna Evelyn Sjoberg on February 25, 1903 in this city and is wel1 known here. She was married ten years ago in Escanaba to Otis Nel- son who survives her. Since that time the family home was at Negaunee over six years and at Rapid River for three years. Since last November the home has been in Manistique. The body was taken to the Gunnarson and Kefauver funeral home to be prepared for burial and will be returned to the family home. Funeral arrangements have not been completed but the services will be held on Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Either Rev. F. Elmgren of this city or Rev. John Hugo of Escanaba will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery. Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Calvary Baptist church of Escanaba. She is survived by her husband and four sons and two daughters. They are Denton, Norma. Justin, Betty Jean, Paul and an infant son 14 days old. Her mother and father, Mr.and Mrs. John Sjoberg of this city also survive as so the following sisters: Mrs. Lilly Nelson, Bernita Sjoberg. Denton O. Nelson, 81, of Manistique, Michigan, died June 12, 2006, at Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique.He was born April 13, 1925, in Manistique, the son of Otis and Anna (Sjoberg) Nelson. Following his mother Anna's death at a young age, he was raised by his father and his mother Bernita (Sjoberg) Nelson. Denton attended Manistique area schools and was a graduate of Manistique High School with the Class of 1943. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Oklahoma City. He was honorably discharged in 1946 following duty in the European and Pacific Theatres.On October 30, 1948, he married the former Berneida A. Archey in Manistique. Denton was self employed over the years, having owned and operated Nelson Logging in Manistique from 1946-1960. He then owned and operated Nelson's Phillips 66/Standard Station in Manistique until is retirement in 1987. Very community minded, Denton served on the Manistique Area Schools Board of Education for 16 years, was a board member of the Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District for 19 years and served on the City of Manistique Recreation Board for 20 years. He was selected the Schoolcraft County Chamber of Commerce Person of the Year in 1985. Denton served on the Board of Directors of the State Savings Bank in Manistique from 1983 until 1996, and served as an honorary board member until this year. He was also an original board member of the Manistique Senior Citizens Center and served on that board for many years. He was a member of the Schoolcraft County V.F.W. Post No. 4420 of Manistique and an original member of the Lazy Archers Hunting Club. He loved hunting, camping, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.Suvivors include: his wife of 57 years, Berneida A. Nelson of Manistique; three sons, Larry (Sherry) Nelson of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Alan (Becky) Nelson of Manistique and John (Cindy) Nelson of Manistique; daughter, Beth (Craig LaFoille) Nagy of Manistique; nine grandchildren, Michelle (Ray) Nelson Kempen, Chrissy Nelson, Matthew Nelson, Tim Nelson, Andrew Nelson, Jill (Dustin) Denkins, Julie Bryan Landis, Steven Nagy and Michael Nagy; great grandson, Derek John Denkins; two brothers, James (JoAnne) Nelson of Manistique and Gary (Beth Atkinson) Nelson of Manistique; two sisters, Norma (Bud) Bartzat of Eugene, Oregon and Betty Jean Danko of Manistique; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Anna, Otis and Bernita, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Nelson and Justin Nelson; and sister, Marlyn Thorell. (Källa: Find A Grave)
