He was born Sept. 21, 1932, in Manistique, the third of 15 children to Leonard and Linda (Sjoberg) Walters. On June 18, 1960 he married the former Helen L. Schuetter in Manistique. Mr. Walters served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany.He worked for the city of Manistique as a fireman and ambulance driver and served as secretary for the volunteer fire department for 20 years. He also worked at Inland Lime and Stone Co. for 25 years retiring in the shop department and served on the substance abuse committee there.He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union 4302 and served as secretary for many years.He sailed on the Great Lakes, drove truck on construction, worked as a summer ranger at Indian Lake State Park and also worked for his parents at the Valley Nursery.He was a member of the Schoolcraft County VFW Post 4420 and a lifelong Green Bay Packer and country music fan.He loved to read, work on his computer and watch his kids and grandkids play sports.Dick is survived by his wife, Helen of Manistique; son, Scott (Ruth) Walters of Jacksonville, Ark.; daughters, Lori (Rob) Niemi of Manistique, Mary Walters of Manistique, Amy (Joe Mignosa) Walters of Middlefield, Conn. and Julie (Aaron) Miller of Milwaukee, Wis.; five grandchildren, Karen (Fred) Qualls of Kalamazoo, Mich., Beth Walters, Niki Walters and Christie Hyland of Manistique and Tim Walters of Arkansas; sisters, Carol Kocher of Wisconsin, Mary Ann Rhynard of Manistique, Jane (Jerry) Wolf of Wisconsin, Jean (Louie) Stoviak of Wisconsin, Sally Paradise of Wisconsin and Pat (Kenny) Brown of Virginia; brothers, Jon Walters of Wisconsin, Fran (Celeste) Walters of Wisconsin and Steve Walters of North Dakota; and several nieces and nephews. Sally Lynn Paradise-Pearsall, 68, of Mountain, Wis., formerly of Manistique, passed away June 12, 2008, at the AGI Health Care Center, Crandon, Wis., following a courageous battle with cancer.Sally was born in Manistique on April 13, 1939, the daughter of the late Leonard and Linda (Sjoberg) Walters. Sally married Dale Paradise and together they had six children. He precedes her in death.On Aug. 11, 2007, at the Living Faith Church of God, Crandon, she married Ronald Pearsall.Sally enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. They spent many great hours playing cards and games. One of her favorite pastimes was spending time with her husband picking berries, and tending to their garden and chickens.Sally was deeply loved by her family and friends and will be deeply missed.She is survived by her husband, Ronald; daughters, Debra (Richard) Fiorini, Gladstone, Diane (Brian) Stevenson, Gladstone, Donna (Edward) Leiskau, Crandon, Wis.; sons, Dean Paradise, Traverse City, Daniel Paradise, Brunswick, Ga.; sisters, Mary Ann Rhynard, Bay City, Carol Kocher, Westfield, Wis., Pat (Kenneth) Brown, Charles City, Va., Jean (Louie) Stoviak, Milwaukee, Wis., Jane (Jerry) Wolfe, Milwaukee, Wis.; brothers, Jon Walters, Wauwatosa, Wis., Steve (Jeannie) Walters, Minot, N.D., Dale (Celeste) Walters, Merrill, Wis.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Former Manistique resident, David E. Walters, 59, of Laconia, N.H., died on Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at the Lakes Region General Hospital of a sudden illness. He was born Sept. 5, 1940, in Manistique, the son of the late Leonard and Linda Walters and had been a resident of Laconia since 1959. He served in the U.S. Navy and was the owner of Lakes Region Carpet Cleaning Company. He was a long time member and past president of the Belknap County Sportsman's Club, a long time volunteer for Community Health and Hospice, a little league coach for many years and was a member of the Laconia Historical Society. Survivors include: his wife, Constance "Connie" (Taylor) Waiters of Laconia, three sons, Keith T. and Kenneth A. both of Laconia and Anthony D. of Meredith; one daughter, Sheila Walters of Meredith, twelve brothers and sisters, Robert Walters, James Walters, Richard Walters, Mary Rhynard, Carol Koscher, Sally Paradise, John Walters, Pat Brown, Jean Stovach, Jane Wolf, Steve Walters, and Dale Francis Walters; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
