Robert T. Franden Robert T. Franden of League City, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep May 1, 2006, at the age of 92. Bob was born in Duluth, Minnesota, on January 4, 1914. He was the son of Swedish immigrants, Emma and Andrew Franden, who raised him, his sister and three brothers on a farm in Braham, Minnesota. At the age of 17 he moved to Chicago, Illinois, to work and put himself through college. He marveled that he had been able to find a job during the depression and never ceased to be thankful for the opportunity to work. He attended the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and Roosevelt College obtaining degrees in geology and business. In 1935 he married the love of his life, Helen Eich of Chicago, who preceded him in death in 2004, just five months before their 70th year wedding celebration. Bob and Helen raised their family of eight children in Wilmette, Illinois. He is survived by daughter, Julie Fitzgerald of Cary, N.C.; son, Robert A. Franden and his wife Gena of Delray Beach, Florida, and Tulsa, Oklahoma, son, Steven Franden and his wife Judith of Austin, Texas; daughter, Elise Wilkinson and her husband, Gerardo Alvarez of League City, Texas; son, John Franden and his wife Janet Janecka of Elgin, Texas, son, Michael Franden and his wife Mary Anne of Littleton, Colorado; and daughter, Andrea Franken and her husband Mark Fahey of Larchmont, New York. Their daughter, Maria Franden, died in infancy. Bob is survived by 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Bob spent 40 years with the McGraw Hill Corporation in Chicago before retiring to the Rio Grande Valley in 1979 where he went into the citrus farming and real estate business. In 1998 Bob and Helen moved to Austin, Texas, where he lived until moving to League City to be with his daughter Elise and her husband Gerardo who were a great joy and comfort to him in his final days. He was a member of the McAllen Country Club, Michigan Shores Club of Wilmette, the Chicago and Minneapolis Athletic Clubs and the Svithiod Club of Chicago. Bob was the inventor of the world famous Bobarita Cocktail shared with his friends around the world. Bob and Helen traveled the world extensively in search of knowledge and friendships, both of which they acquired in great abundance. Bob was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word.
