A native of Sweden, he moved to the United States with his family when he was nine years old, arriving at Ellis Island on Dec 26, 1924. He grew up in Kasota, Minnesota, and was attending Gustavus Adolphus College at the outbreak of World War II. Major Dacklin served in the U.S. Army Pacific Theater during the war, and after the war, he served this nation until he retired from the U.S. Army as a major. After retiring from the U.S. Army, he went to work for Warner Robbins Air Force Base as a civilian employee and worked there until his retirement in 1990. He served our nation for a combined total of 48 years. Major Dacklin resided in the Warner Robbins area since 1962 and died in Miami as a result of a heart attack that occurred during the Christmas Holidays, while visiting his niece Suzanne in Miami, Florida. Paul was a huge Georgia Bulldog football fan and attended many games over the years as a season ticket holder. His most treasured moment was when the Bulldogs won the National Championship in 1980. He was an avid traveler his entire life even attending a family reunion in Liden, Sweden this past summer. In his younger days, he was a skilled skier and golfer. Paul Dacklin was a unique person who never met a stranger and enjoyed the company of people from all walks of life. He especially enjoyed being with family and visiting his nephews and nieces.
