Arland Birkaker died on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. He was 77 years old.He was born on July 31, 1931 at University Hospital in Minneapolis to Ole and Bell Birkaker. He lived with his grandmother in Mora until he enlisted in the Army in 1951. He was honorably discharged in 1952 and lived in California for three years and then returned to Mora.He lived with his aunt Phyllis and uncle Ozwald Telander until he was united in marriage to Shirley Morris in 1963. Together they had one son, Terry. They were also blessed with a grandson, Craig, granddaughter, Laura and a great-grandson, Deegan.He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Bell Birkaker; uncle, Ozzie Telander, aunt Phyllis Telander; and grandmother, Hildegard.He is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, Terry Birkaker (Becky Nelson) of Knife Lake; granddaughter, Laura (Eric Renstrom) Birkaker of Grasston; grandson, Craig Birkaker (Michelle Kuehn) of Henriette; great-grandson, Deegan Birkaker.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Dresser-Methven Funeral Home in Mora with Rev. Harry Nelson officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Wyman Telander, Kenny Telander, Ronnie Kadlec, Corky Susvold and Willie Strom.Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.
