Svante Malcolm Carlson was born at Unnaryd, Smaland, Sweden on Oct. 22, 1885, the son of Carl and Lena Johnson, and passed away at his home at Monticello, Minnesota, March 6, 1944, at the age of 57 years, 4 months and 13 days.Mr. Carlson came to the United States in 1903, and resided at Dawson, St. Paul, and Duluth, Minnesota.He was married to Lydia E. Gerdin at Braham, Minn., on Dec 22, 1917. To this union were born seven children; two of them preceding him in death.Mr. Carlson is survived by his wife, three daughters, Helen, of Minneapolis, Gladys and Betty of Monticello; two sons, Lawrence, of the United States Navy Midshipman's School at Asbury Park, New Jersey, and Oliver, a minister of the Christian and Missionary Alliance at Sioux Falls, S.D.; a brother Axel, of Dawson, Minn., and a sister in Sweden. Two brothers also preceded him in death.Mr. Carlson was a member of the Methodist church, Masonic Lodge No. 16, A. F. and A. M.and also of the Monticello Commercial Club. He was a man with a quiet manner. A friend of every man and child, with a kind personality. He was a true and fine Christian gentleman. He would always be found using all his influence for the kindly and charitable attitude to all men, and in all affairs.Funeral services were conducted from the Community church, Wednesday afternoon, Rev. John L. Parish, officiating. Burial was at Riverside cemetery.(Obit in the Monticello Times, Monticello, MN , Thursday, March 9, 1944)
