Eugene died of a sudden illness May 8th while walking near his Sonora home. He was 71. Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Merchant Marines. His family said he was a man of all trades, including woodworking, tree climbing and operating heavy equipment. He lived in Sonora 4 years. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his sister, Sylvia Wakely, and his parents, Sally and Bill Johnson. He is survived by his children, Mike E. Johnson of Alderpoint, Humboldt County, Dorene L. Lewis of Fortuna, Humboldt County, Kim Johnson of Eugene, OR., and Nichole Tubbs of Myrtle Point, OR., numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his brother, Ivan Johnson of Sonora.
